When prompted to use an item during fusion pick the Enma Notebook and you'll notice that the outcome of the fusion will change to Yama instead of whatever other Persona you were creating first. In order to make Yama you'll need to fuse together two Spell Cards whose outcome would be a Hierophant Persona. Most Totems work so long as you're fusing a Persona of the same Arcana, for example, the first Persona on the list below is Yama.
